Glowing Green Light Over Phoenix Arizona New Years Eve 2011

Date:  December 31, 2011
Time:  Approx: After 8:00 p.m.

My husband and I saw a glowing, green light that traveled horizontally to the ground at a rather low altitude sometime after 8:00 p.m. on December 31st, 2011. We were in our home facing east, and it moved from south to north in the Carefree area.

We live in the vicinity of Central avenue and Carefree Highway. A local television news program mentioned that several people had called in with the sighting, but we have not heard anything else on the subject since that night.

If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: sighting@telus.net with the details of your sighting. All personal information is kept confidential.

  1. A bunch of us hanging out in our cul-de-sac near 55th ave and Peoria saw it. It was exactly as you described it. We blew it of as a errant firework. A buddy of mine said he saw it fly pretty much from horizon to horizon.

  3. I watched it while heading north on I-17 towards Greenway. The light was in the sky to my right (east) side and was a vibrant orange to red. I asked my boyfriend if he saw what I was looking at and as he looked the light was green and then blue! It was NOT a firework and it was traveling at excessive speeds. We were traveling at 75mph and it was at least double our speed. It was the most surreal and explainable thing I've ever seen!! Definitely NOT a firework... or aircraft.

  4. I am a taxi driver and was out all night that night. I was on a call near Broadway and S. McClintock Dr in Tempe when I saw it. I was parked and outside my cab talking to another driver. We had been waiting on a group of people to come out of their apartment and so were just passing time.
I looked up and saw a strange object moving rapidly, but not real fast, across the sky from south to north. It looked like it glowed and was a sort of blueish/green or maybe turquoise color. It seemed to me that it had a slight haze around it as it moved although there were no clouds or mists at the level it was flying.
I initially thought it could be a firework, but as it moved along I realized it could not be that as it covered too much area and stayed the same brightness as it moved. I would estimate that as I watched it the object covered about 2 miles of sky before disappearing behind some trees. This told me it was actually very low in the sky.
The other driver I was with saw exactly the same thing. We were amazed at what we saw as once it was gone and we discussed what it could be we realized we had seen a "UFO".
The time we saw it was about 8:30pm Dec 31, 2011.
By The Way - I was a aviation and high tech technician for various Dept of Defense projects (and stationed at Luke AFB) back in the 70s and 80s and I am very familiar with how aircraft fly. This was a very weird aircraft if that was what it was, but I doubt it.

  6. I was driving with my roommate around 10:30pm @ 37th ave & Butler (which is the middle point between Northern ave & Olive) As I was making a left onto 37th Ave, there was a quick green flash of light that reminded me of a bomb or something blowing up, but what kind of bomb emmits a green hue? It looked like it blew up or crashed by 35th ave & Dunlap area. My roommate and I just kinda looked at each other after the green light flash, and we continued on our way. She wanted to go down to Walgreens so she could bring back her Redbox dvds. So, we go to Walgreens, she gets out to drop the movie's back into the machine. 10 minutes or more go by and I get out to see what's taking her so long and she's still trying to get the machine to accept the dvd's. Now here's what I think is odd and related to this whole green flash, not only is my roommste trying to coax the redbox drop off slot to recognize the dvd's but another person on the other booth is doing the same. The screen kept saying "Please slide movie now", but it wouldn't take the dvd it would go halfway in, then it would spit it out, and it would say "error-try again, please make sure the dvd is in case correctly, facing up" So we checked, and tried again, and again. Same thing everytime, it was rejecting the return. Same with the machine next to us, Error. My initail thought as this whole irritating issue was at hand was that maybe the green bomb screwed up all the electronic or computerized systems, kinda like a EMP bomb. Because both Redbox machines where saying the same thing, and I have never seen anyone have issues returning their movies, let alone both stations at the same time. So when I was online the other day and I came across the Fox 10 news story about the light flash, Hmmm, sounds to me like either we have a pattern or a issue that needs to be looked into and explained, because everything happens for a reason, right?
