Bright Orangey Yellow Object Over Mickleover Derby Derbyshire UK

Date: May 22, 2010
Time: After 9:30 p.m.

Dear Sirs, I have sent one or two reports to various UFO sites this weekend following a strange sighting on Saturday evening 22 May. This is the first time in many years my husband and I have ever
seen anything out of the ordinary, and we can find no explanation for it.

We were both sitting outside on Saturday night, 22 May, in the warmth, and just after 9.30 p.m. (at Mickleover, Derby, Derbyshire), my husband said he thought there was something on fire in the sky. We watched as this bright orangey/yellow object travelled steadily upwards (almost on one of the usual flight paths) on a roughly NNW course. We rushed to get the binoculars and could see that it was not a normal plane (no flashing lights), nor a helicopter, and thought it may be a hot air balloon, but discounted this as we could see no burner, and it was too high up for a balloon. The orangey/yellow light source(s) seemed to be from below the object, but we couldn't make out an exact shape.

The light(s) seemed to be "twinkling" rather, and at one stage we thought we could see rays of light radiating out from the right hand side in a fan shape. We also thought we could distinguish a faint dark shape above the light source, almost like the shape of a tall drinks can, but it was difficult to see exactly as the object was moving fairly quickly steadily upwards at about a 45 degree angle - we would say the speed was less than that of a jet aircraft as we had time to go and fetch the binoculars from upstairs.

As we watched it made a smooth turn more to the West, probably about a 60 degree turn, ascending steadily, upwards, then it seemed to disappear, presumably into cloud, quite suddenly.

It is hard to describe the shape of the object as all we could see most of the time was this very bright light source, which could have been made up of a number of "lights", pointing downwards, it seemed. There was no noise whatsoever, and no other aircraft nearby. I did think I saw another bright orange glow near where the object disappeared, but I can't be certain as this may have been a planet or star.

I did not realize until this weekend that there have been so many sightings of orange/yellow objects as it is something neither of us have investigated until now, but it does make us question what we have seen. Hope this is useful and perhaps other people may be able to corroborate or add to what we have seen? As far as we know we can discount those Chinese lanterns as it seems impossible they could make such a controlled ascent.

If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: sighting@telus.net with the details of your sighting. All personal information is kept confidential.
