Steelhead And Winter Ice Fishing In And Around Houston British Columbia (12 Pictures)

Above Photo: Fulton river which flows into Babine Lake, British Columbia's longest natural lake at Granisle, B.C.. Picture was taken on New Year's Day, January 1, 2016.

Houston, British Columbia is known around the world for a good number of things, such as Canada’s largest fly fishing rod and one of two grizzly bears that were killing cattle around Hungry Hill.

Also we have the “beautiful” Steelhead Park which runs along Highway 16 through Houston.

In the park there is the Steelhead fountain where you can sit peacefully enjoying the day.

Another popular attraction is the Wolf Totem Pole which is in the park.

In summer there are numerous beds of blooming flowers of different types and well manicured grass. The park is truly Houston’s well known gem.

Winter Scene - The Equity Silver Mine Road Houston British Columbia (75 - Pictures/Slideshow)

Above Photo: At the top of the rock bluff the tree tops are pure white from the snow and frost and in summertime you can see the mountain goats laying down sun baking all seen from the Equity Silver Mine Road Houston, British Columbia.

Once again we headed off on a new adventure, this time closer to home. On December 14, 2015 we decided, since it was a beautiful day to take a drive out on the old Equity Silver Mine Road. The road had been ploughed recently so it was like a super highway. The sky was deep blue and the snow crystals glistened in the sunlight.

The Equity mine road has been one of my favorite places to visit which is just outside of town. Years back in the summer we would take all the little kids to a spot where they could catch some trout, and it was right at the side of the road. They would cast out their fishing line with a float attached and wait for the float to bob up and down. Of course there was always a juicy worm on the hook.

Winter Scene - Travel To Beautiful Houston British Columbia (11 - Pictures)

Above Photo: The Bulkley River filmed from the Bulkley Valley bridge.

Well another dawn arrived in Houston, B.C. with yet another heavy snowfall on the ground. Everything, I mean everything is white. So on December 13, 2015 I headed out harmed with camera, water and pop to one of my favorite places around Houston.

Knockholt for me holds a lot of good memories, my kids when younger would swim in the Bulkley River at Knockholt. Then my daughters kids did the same. They could build sandcastles with moat, ride inner tubes down the river or just splash around having a good old time.

The scenery there never lets you down, and the beauty about this location is that you can drive right to it. From Houston heading east the distance is only a 8.6km drive along Highway 16 and make a right hand turn onto McKilligan Road, a few hundred yards down the road and you can park your vehicle and within a few steps you are sitting by the river.

Winter On The Morice River Houston British Columbia (10 - Pictures)

Above Photo: Seen from the Walcott Road outside Houston, British Columbia.

Once again we woke up to a blanket of snow on Saturday December 12, 2015. It was just gorgeous out with the new snow and we decided to take a drive out on the Morice River road outside of Houston, British Columbia.

The trees were covered in white, it was as if someone dropped blobs of white paint onto the branches of the trees. Although the sky was dark and overcast, the brilliance from the snow made for a wonderful picture.

New Snowfall Blankets Houston British Columbia (6 - Pictures)

Above Photo: I thought this was a fun picture. It shows three snowmen that the little ones made, and a street sign warning drivers to slow down as children in the area are out playing.

On December 8, 2015 the residents of Houston woke up to another beautiful snowfall that covered the town.

At this time of the year it seemed more special because Christmas is just around the corner. For the children, Santa will have snow to land his reindeer and sled on, there will be snowball fights, kids building their snowmen or snow forts to hide in.

First Snowfall In 2015 At The Steelhead Park Houston British Columbia (7 - Pictures)

Above Photo: Sign for the District of Houston’s Steelhead Park.

People play hard in the summer time around Houston, British Columbia. The weather is nice so folks grab their fishing rod, boat and motor and head off to one of the many lakes to catch that really nice Trout. Some like to lay around sunbaking, maybe head off on a nice hike, or paddle around in a canoe or kayak, but no matter what people do, they love soaking up the heat.

After a fun summer and fall sets in, people again are busy gathering fire wood and getting last minute repairs done for the long winter that soon will be upon us. Before we know it, temperatures start dropping and that cool rain shower turns to frozen soft flakes that falls gently to the ground. Now we know, winter has arrived in Houston, B.C.

Christmas Lights In Steelhead Park Small Town Houston British Columbia (20 Pictures/Video)

Above Photo: A look at Houston’s old church at Christmas time November 27, 2015.

Since we are getting into the Christmas season, I thought that this message would be a
great place to start.

I moved to Houston with my family in 1981 from Surrey, British Columbia, it also was in the dead of winter. The temperature at that time was in the minus 30’s, and what a time to start a new life in a small town and trying to dig frozen ground for water lines, etc. Honestly, I thought I had made a huge mistake, but life moves on and you have to make the best of the situation. Winter passed and Spring and Summer rolled in, and we got things ready for the next winter.

CN Railway Bridge And Scenery From Around Houston British Columbia (8 Pictures)

Above Photo: The CN Railway bridge and the Pleasant Valley Highway bridge over the icy Bulkley river in Houston, British Columbia.

Yesterday, November 23, 2015 I had a little time to kill as I dropped my wife off at the doctors, so I thought I would make a quick trip around town to see what might make a good photo. I revisited a couple of areas to show how winter’s icy grip is starting to settle in with the Bulkley River starting to ice over. The CN Railway bridge always has looked like a nice place to snap a photo from, so I did.

Massive 975 Pound Grizzly Bear On Display At Houston British Columbia’s Visitor’s Centre (Pictures)

Above Photo: Massive 975 pound Grizzly Bear on display at
Houston, British Columbia’s Visitor’s Centre.

I have been trying to get a good picture of the Grizzly bear that is on display in Houston, but seeing it is in a glass enclosure, there is always a reflection to deal with. Today, November 20, 2015 my wife and I stopped by the Visitors Centre and we managed to take a decent photo.

The Grizzly bear that is on display in the Houston’s, Visitors Centre was one of two bear which were given the name of “Phantom Bears”.

Buildings Filmed Between Houston And Burns Lake British Columbia (Pictures)

Above Photo: I don’t believe the buildings are very old, but they looked really interesting and made for a nice picture.

We always try to keep a lookout for something nice to film. On one of our recent drives out to Burns Lake, British Columbia we spotted some buildings in an open field.

They looked interesting so I stopped the car and walked into the field and took a number of pictures.

The Bulkley River Around Houston British Columbia (9 Pictures/ 2 Video Clips)

Above Photo: Beaver dam down stream on the The Bulkley River.

As many might notice, the Bulkley River is one of my favorite places in and around Houston, British Columbia to be. No matter what part of the Bulkley river I visit, the beauty is breath taking.

So today, on October 30, 2015 my wife and I made another visit to the Bulkley river as the beavers are damming up the river in a couple of different spots, and I was hoping we might get some pictures of the fury little critter, but today we certainly heard the beaver splashing around up river, but never seem it.

Totem Pole Sits In The Steelhead Park Houston British Columbia

Above Photo: Totem Pole located in the Steelhead Park Houston, British Columbia.

My wife and I took the dog over to the Steelhead Park in Houston, British Columbia today, as it was a beautiful day.

The park's flowers have pretty much died off, but there still is a large number of travelers pulling into the park to take pictures of Canada's largest fly rod and reel.
