Object Bright White Almost Fiery Orange With Tail Nashville Tennessee

Date:  March 28, 2012
Time:  Approx: 9:15 p.m.
Good morning, we live in Nashville TN and at around 9:15 p.m. CST on Wednesday March 28, 2012 my boyfriend and I both saw this.

We were looking up at the moon and then something caught my eye, it looked like a bottle rocket on the 4th of July, but it was way too high, too fast and the angle was more of a shooting across motion.
The moon was to the right of us so, the object moved from right to left, I believe we were facing a bit southeast? It sailed across the sky with a bright white tail and you could see some trailing smoke.
It had a bright white head with almost an orange fiery look to it. Before it disappeared it broke into about 3 pieces, then nothing.

I've seen "shooting stars" before over the years, but this was was quite extraordinary.

I've read on other sites, others have seen something of the same nature, but on the previous days..

Thank you for any insight!

  1. My wife and I saw it last night at that time in Nashville too.

I, like you, have seen shooting stars many times. This was so much more incredible than any of those.

Huge fireball. It certainly looked like something entering the atmosphere and breaking into fire.

So glad I got to see it.
