Date: January 30, 2012
Time: Evening.
I was online looking for articles and I came across yours. Last night (January 30, 2012) my daughter and her husband, who live on a big acreage between Gibbons and Redwater, watched for over 1 1/2 hours as an orange object moved about the northeast sky.
She said it made no noise, hovered at times and moved up, down, or to either side many times, seeming to be heading in a more easterly direction towards Redwater. She got her videocam and caught the image, but without a tripod she was having difficulty holding the camera steady enough for long enough to get a really clear video.
Also, there were no stars visible that she was able to film alongside the object, thereby not giving any reference point or size approximation to any expert who might want to see the video. Her husband said he had seen this same thing once before but hadn't mentioned it to her.
Neither of them are "flakes" or given to seeing things that aren't there, so that is why I am convinced that she was sincere in believing that they saw something that wasn't a star, a satellite or an airplane or helicopter.
She called the Telus World of Science this a.m. and spoke to their astronomer who was very anxious to offer many plausible explanations about helicopters, long distance fires, etc. etc., but wasn't too interested in considering any type of non-man-made object.
I doubt if this information will do anything to expand your horizon on the issue, but it was interesting to me to see someone who had seen something and described it exactly the same way my daughter had described it, both sightings within a couple of weeks of each other.
I've suggested to my daughter that she get the tripod set and ready in case they get another chance to see this thing again. I also came across quite a few other "sightings" of "round, silent, orange object" in the sky around Edmonton while I was looking at your post. These ones were somewhat older - November 2011, e.g.
If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: sighting@telus.net with the details of your sighting. All personal information is kept confidential.
