1949 Witness Observes UFO Make 90 Degree Turns/Hover Over Grand Island Nebraska

From Brian Vike’s UFO Files.

Date:  Fall of 1949
Time:  Evening.

Sir, I'm a real old guy (75), but I have a story to tell.

In the Fall of 1949 while a senior in high school, I attended a night football game.

I was sitting in the west bleachers facing east and at one point during the game I noticed a light in the eastern sky fairly low to the horizon.

It slowly kept rising and the first thing I thought of that it was a *mail plane*. They were flying old DC-3s for that purpose back then.

However, when it got up to about a 45 degree angle it stopped. I thought that that's odd.

After a few seconds it shot off to the north making a 90 degree angle and man it was fast.

It disappeared almost immediately. I've never forgotten this and ever since I've been a true believer in something out there.

Thank you very much to the witness for their report.

If anyone has had a UFO/UFOs sighting, please send me an email at sighting@telus.net or fill out the online UFO report form at http://sightings1.yolasite.com/ with details of what you saw.

7 Orange Red Lights Seen In The Sky Above Lincoln Nebraska

Date:  November 27, 2008
Time:  10:13 p.m.

We are so relieved that others witnessed this event in Lincoln, NE. We too saw 7 orange-red orbs above our house on 11-27-08 at 22:13 hrs.

They were about 100 feet up and flying N. to S. There were 5 at first and then 2 more appeared. They made no noise. Who can help us solve this mystery?

Opaque Spherical UFO Seen By 20 People Over South Bend Nebraska

Date:  July 4, 2008
Time:  Approx: 8:30 p.m.

I also witnessed a UFO that night (7/4/08) in South Bend, Nebraska at about 8:30 p.m. In fact, so did the other 20 people I was with.

It appeared to be opaque, spherical, and was flying lower than any private airplanes I've seen pass over, although, moving at what I perceived to be about 150 MPH with no noise. It was heading south to north.

The others I was with saw it again later in the evening. They described it as being higher in the sky with a bright red light on the bottom of it. They actually took pictures that I can't wait to see.

Orange Objects Over Omaha Nebraska

Date:  November 16, 2011
Time:  Evening.

Good evening, I just witnessed a similar event here in Omaha, Nebraska USA. My roommate and I for the last thirty minutes watched as a group of 3-10 orange bulbs flew from  the northern sky to the southwest sky and occasionally north to east.

We witnessed 10 groups fly over. Neither of us have previously seen a UFO, our third roommate suggested maybe they were birds lit up by the city lights. They were moving from the northern sky to southern and out of sight within 10-12 seconds.

Higher than a plane, and moving much faster than a jet or satellite. I was amazed at what we saw, came inside after 10 minutes of no sightings. And Google this topic, saw your post maybe they are related. Keep me posted if you hear of other stories similar to this.

Feel free to pass this information on. Thank you.

10 Red Colored Objects Over The Ambassador Nursing Home Omaha Nebraska

Date:  July 4, 2011
Time:  9:30 p.m. -10:30 p.m.
Location of Sighting: 72nd and Seward Street. (Omaha Nebraska)
Number of witnesses: 2
Number of Objects: 10
Shape of Objects: Round.
Full Description of Event/Sighting: Me and my girlfriend went outside of The Ambassador Nursing Home to look at the fireworks. We weren't outside, but a few minutes when we saw a red-lighted object coming from the east. It flew slowly across the sky and kept climbing upward like a balloon, but it was dark, so we would not have been able to see it if it was a balloon.
The light did not flash like the lights of an aircraft would have. It did not blink or explode like fireworks would have. It did not have a streak or fall back to Earth like a flare would have.

Before that one disappeared from sight into the upper atmosphere, we saw another one coming from the east. A few minutes after both had climbed out of sight, we saw four more coming from the east! One was close enough to see a solid white light at the bottom of the red light.

Before the last of the four, the one we saw closer, two more came from the west. We were able to see a white light underneath the red light of one of those. Everyone of these objects seemed to slowly floated upward and disappeared and probably took about three minutes from sighting to disappearance.

We hadn't seen anymore for probably about twenty minutes before we saw another one coming from the west and another behind the trees to the north. When those disappeared, we didn't see anymore. We went back inside about ten minutes later. I didn't see anymore on the drive home to Plattsmouth.

The whole event was strange and seemed as if they weren't worried about being spotted because people were busy watching fireworks and might have confused them for fireworks. But I have never seen a firework that didn't streak or explode and just keep rising up into the sky.
We were wondering if anyone else noticed this and at this point, I have not found anything mentioning this. But it does sound similar to the report from last July 4th west of Omaha with the exception of these objects were not in any formation and were not hovering.

9 Red Lights Over Southwest Lincoln Nebraska

Date:  July 3, 2011
Time:  11:00 p.m. to midnight.

Number of witnesses: 2
Number of Objects: 9
Shape of Objects: Circular red light.

Full Description of Event/Sighting: Red lights in the sky that looked like they were pulsating or on fire. My husband and I went on a walk about an hour before the one I filmed came along by our apartment and we saw and counted at least 9 of these.

Not sure if they were different ones or not. But the first 4 we saw one came after the other about a minute apart and followed the same path. They moved higher in the sky and as they went up the lights faded out.

They didn't make any noise like an airplane or helicopter would. They moved quite slow, but as they went up they also sped up. We also saw a couple in the distance that seemed to just hover there and then they just disappeared.

The one I have film of was at around midnight on 7/3/2011. They were spotted in southwest Lincoln, Nebraska.

Glowing Orange Objects Over Omaha Nebraska

Date: August 28, 2010
Time: 11:08 p.m.

Four of us spotted what appeared to be a strange orange object in the sky, moving to the north at a speed much faster than an airplane. It looked almost like a meteor, but was not losing altitude, and disappeared over the horizon. The first one was spotted at 11:08 CDT. About five minutes later there was a second similar object also moving to the north. The second one appeared to be further to the west. I did a Google search to see if there were any reported sightings and came across your article from July 5th.

Orange Objects Over South Sioux City Nebraska

Date: August 13, 2010
Time: Approx: 11:00 p.m.

Hello, my name is (name removed) and I've recently witnesses something I cannot explain.

On August 13th at around 11:00pm a friend and I were standing outside (South Sioux City, Nebraska). It was obviously dark with some clouds high in the night sky. I first seen what can best described as an orange orb slowly moving from north to south (from my vantage point it was to the west of my location). It was orange, but brighter at the top and noticeably darker at the bottom (as if the exterior was partly transparent and a smaller darker orb was inside resting at the bottom). Soon it passed behind a building out of my line of sight.

Then, about 10 seconds later I seen two more of these orbs moving at the exact same speed and in the same direction as the first. These two orbs stayed at a fixed distance form each other and traveling on a perfect parallel course.

I hesitated to tell someone about this but after finding more and more information about these objects on the internet I feel its my responsibility to be heard.

If you or any of your colleagues have any questions feel free to email me back.

Thank you.

Triangular Formation Of Lights Hovering Over West Of Omaha Along Platte And Elkhorn Rivers Nebraska

Date: July 4, 2010
Time: Between 10:15 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

I just Googled "lights in the sky over NE" for July 4, 2010 to see if there was any explanation for what my husband and I saw that night while we were out driving around to look at the fireworks displays around the western edge of Omaha.

We live in a rural area just west of Omaha along the Platte and Elkhorn Rivers. We always drive along the river bluff areas on the 4th of July after dark to watch the fireworks displays from all of the suburbs and lake communities. Between 10:15pm and 10:30pm we saw three constant lights in the northeastern sky that seemed to be in a somewhat triangular formation, just hovering over the river valley, not moving!

At first we thought maybe it was some sort of parachute or fireworks, but we continued to watch it as we drove east toward hwy 275, and it never faded out or drifted down to the ground like a firework would, it just stayed constant. Very weird! We were both very uneasy about what we were seeing, but curious.

We decided to head home to see if anything was on the news about it, nothing. Then, after we turned off the TV, we went to sit on the back porch of our rural home, and the same formation of lights was to the south of our home. This was at least an hour later, about 11:30pm or so, and it was about 20 miles south of where we had seen it before! Too weird! We went inside and just quit talking, we didn't know what to say, denial I'm not sure.

We just went to bed and said no more about it since. This is the first time I've had the time to look up anything online, and I was shocked to see the posting from someone else in North Bend, which is just west of where we saw the lights! If you have any insight as to what this was, please let me know. Thanks.

Red Orange Misty Glowing Object Over Columbus Nebraska

Date: July 4, 2010
Time: Approx: 9:00 pm

I am writing in reference to the July 4th sighting in North Bend, Nebraska. We had a similar sighting in Columbus Nebraska which is located 30 miles west of North Bend. I submitted our story to Nuforc.org. You can read it here.

http://www.nuforc.org/webreports/076/S76158.html

Since posting this story, I checked the weather history and the wind was blowing the wrong direction that night for this to have been a lantern. If you check the wind direction for North Bend at the time of that sighting, I believe the same is true.

Also, after reading all the Nebraska Reports on that night, one can see that 11 reports were submitted. Certainly above average for Nebraska. Even more interesting is that all, but one of the reports are from communities along the Platte River - all seeing something similar.

I don't know what we saw. I too am not a UFO enthusiast and am having a difficult time finding a rational explanation for what we saw. Any ideas?

Orange Light With What Looked Like Wings Seen Between Auburn And Nebraska City Nebraska

Date: July 3, 2010
Time: Approx: 9:00 p.m.

We also saw this same orange light with what appeared to have wings above the light. It was like a fireball glowing. At first I thought it looked like a small glider plane that had possibly caught on fire. It was at about a helicopters altitude and drifted south for a bit the headed back north and eventually headed east and got higher and higher and vanished into a high cloud.

It was at approximately 9:00pm on July 3, 2010 between the towns of Auburn, Nebraska and Nebraska City, Nebraska. (approx 10 miles north of Auburn and 10 miles south of Ne. City along hwy 75) A friend who was in Columbus, Nebraska also witness the same thing that evening. This was witnessed by myself and my husband and our 3 children ages 7,7, and 4.

Orange Glowing Flickering Objects Over Omaha Nebraska

Date: July 5, 2010
Time: Approx: 9:00 p.m.

Was checking online to see if anyone had similar stories about strange orange lights in the sky tonight and saw your web page: http://www.sightings.com/1.reports2010/bellevilleIL07042010.html dated July 4, 2010.

Nine adults and 4 children in Omaha, Nebraska saw 3 orange glowing/flickering things in the sky at dusk, an hour or so before fireworks began on July 5, 2010. SO, lets say about 9:00pm CST tonight. They didn't seem to be connected, although one adult thought one might be pulling a second one. They appeared about 2 times total, as if they were circling just east of us and we saw the western edge of the circling each time they came around. Could have been 6 total, though not really sure.

We have a lot of trees in our neighborhood, so we couldn't tell if they had circled or more were following the original 3. Two adults had just driven in from lake of the Ozarks... 5 or so hours away in central Missouri... and said people saw the same thing there the night before. They appeared to be in somewhat of a line. Not a perfect line, but as if they were following each other. First two seemed closer together, then trailed by a third.

Theories from the kids? Hot air balloons, because it looked like fire was seen. Theories from the adults? Someone mentioned Chinese lanterns or something like that, but a mile in the sky or more. We all saw what looked like fire. At first it looked like airplanes on fire, but there were no usual airplane lights. We typically have helicopters over our neighborhood (police and hospital/trauma), but these were definitely not those. Plus, our city doesn't even have 3. That's all I know, but wanted to share the info. Thanks.

Sightings.com Reports Bright Lights Over North Bend Nebraska

Date: July 4, 2010
Time: 10:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Hello, my family and I spotted a flying object flying almost exactly north, in the sky east of North Bend, Nebraska. The sighting took place on July 4th, 2010. My wife and I were lighting fireworks at her parents house when suddenly the people at the house started talking and pointing to the east. They called out to me, "what is that?" I saw a light moving far in the distance. Initially I thought it was a helicopter because the light seemed to flicker, like the flame of a candle.

However it was very high and very fast and the light seemed to be one of burning and not an electric halogen bulb like you see on modern aircraft. Additionally, there were no red and white strobe lights that are standard on regulation aircraft. It continued north (it had first been spotted to the southeast of us), and the light didn't really change as our perspective of it did as it passed (i.e., there was no dimming effect like you might get from headlights passing you).

It was flying quickly, at least the speed of a large helicopter or a plane. After a minute or so it was across the sky, and northeast of us, when it rather quickly faded out of sight entirely. This was surprising to us because we were seeing commercial jets far over head and could clearly make out their blinking red and white lights over an altitude of at least 15,000 feet.

The object appeared again about 15 to 20 minutes later, again in the southeast. It followed the exact same flight pattern as it had before, vanishing again in what we can say at best was the same spot as before.

A third and identical sighting took place roughly an hour after the first one. By the third time it came around, we had gone inside to get some binoculars. The object was difficult to focus on, but the characteristics of the light coming from the object was more akin to the flame of a candle than the steady shine of an electric source. But the object was very bright in the sky, brighter by at least 10-fold than even the brightest star or airplane. My father in law was able to track it in his binoculars, and describes that it seemed like a round object, like looking at a disc on its side or perhaps a sphere, with the burning light coming from around the perimeter of the circumference.

All in all, the sightings took place between 10:00 pm and 11:00 pm, US Central time.

There were 6 adults and 2 young children at that house, and we all saw it each time. After the third one, my father-in-law and I went next door to see if the neighbor had seen the same thing. She and her two grandsons had seen it during one of the fly-overs. She thought at first that it was a basket from a hot air balloon, saying that the light's quality made her think of the hot air generator present in such balloons. But she realized it was moving far too fast to be a balloon.

The object's trajectory was more or less level across the sky, except at the end it could possibly have been increasing altitude, but hard to say without any precise measurements.

The following day (July 5th), we communicated with some family who live in Wichita, Kansas, and they saw the same object flying in the same direction.

I am flabbergasted. I am a critical examiner with a scientific background, but I cannot explain this object (or these objects) that we all observed that night. It did not seem to be a standard commercial aircraft, the "flickering" characteristics of the light and the lack of accompanying strobe lights make it hard to see it being a standard aircraft. It could have been a military craft (such as a fighter jet with afterburners on or something?) but the duration and speed of the flight put that in question for me as well, not to mention the fact that this was July 4th, a Sunday as well as a national holiday, and I didn't expect military personnel to be conducting any flights during that time.

Moreover, this would have had to be an experimental aircraft, and I can't envision the military wanting to schedule test flights for a night when they know pretty much everyone will be outside looking up (due to the fireworks). Furthermore, usually when an aircraft passes by that quickly at that short of a distance (the light was VERY intense so we don't imagine it could have been far if it were the size of a typical aircraft), we would have heard a sound at some point. We heard nothing except the distant popping of fireworks.

Unfortunately we did not get any pictures or video of the light, but from reading your site (which we found through Google after searching to see if anyone else had seen this thing), it sounds like several other people throughout the midwest saw similar things in the sky that night.

I'd love some answers. I'm no aviator and certainly not a UFO enthusiast. I've always heard stories of rural UFO sightings and dismissed them as the uneducated giving extraordinary explanations for phenomena they can't explain. Well, I am an educated scientific man, and I cannot explain what we saw that night, nor can I explain why our relatives who are some 300 miles south of us saw the same thing at the same time. Thanks.
