I too saw what was described in this posting on the same date and about the same time. My location was Medford ( the LIE was about one mile to the south of my location), looking towards the north easterly sky.
However, I did not notice any of the round shapes appearing to "come together", but rather they appeared to "dim out" or some appeared to simply vanish. The formation I saw was as described, and indeed quite large in appearance!
