White Meteor Turned Blue Green Over Chandler Arizona

Date:  December 31, 2011
Time:  Approx: 8:15 p.m.
Tonight, 12/31/11, we were at a New Year's party southeast of Phoenix around 8:15 p.m., where the host was shooting bottle rockets and we were all looking skyward. On the eastern horizon, moving from south to north, we all saw what initially looked like a very fast moving plane.
It was white, then turned blue-green. It looked like a shooting star, but very, very close and huge. It broke up into four little orange pieces after a long stretch. It was beautiful and amazing.
If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: with the details of your sighting. All personal information is kept confidential.

  1. We saw the same Asteroid!! We were on Saguaro Lake watching a movie, (Cars 2), with our kids and some friends. Then out of the northern sky, under Orion's belt, came this huge, bright, gleaming being shooting across the sky! It was amazing! The night sky was so dark and the Asteroid was so big and fast and beautiful! My kids thought it was the end of the world!! Ha Ha, okay, just a neighbor kid did. Anyway, it was amazing and one to remember! Our kids say that is one of the best lake trips ever!! Thanks and live long and prosper! Lafe Goeckeritz, Gilbert, AZ.
