Date: July 4, 2010
Time: Between 9:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.My husband and I sit out on our back deck just east of Fredericktown Missouri (about 50 miles west of the Mississippi river and 90 miles south of St. Louis). almost every night and watch the sky to spot meteorites and such. We see lots of planes and helicopters so we do know the difference. Up to now we've never seen anything we didn't recognize. Tonight we were watching fireworks in our area and I pointed to what I thought was a fire ball from fireworks.
It was south of us in the sky well above the trees. It was a big orange red fire like ball and we were waiting for it to explode. Instead, we saw it was moving up and toward us heading north. We waited for sound, but there was no sound coming from it. We watched the object move right over our back deck as it kept going north until it disappeared from view.
It looked like a round orange red fire ball floating over head at a steady speed. It was below cloud level and it was much bigger than any light from any planes we have ever seen. This was some time between 9:30 and 10:00pm central time.
It was such an odd experience I decided to look on the web in case anyone else had seen it. That's how I found your site. I'm glad to know other saw what we saw.
If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: sighting@telus.net with the details of your sighting. All personal information is kept confidential.
