Orange Silent Spheres Over Rochdale UK

My wife just asked me to "Google if anyone else saw the orange silent spheres" Rochdale 11.30 pm 31/12/2009 an orange light appeared in the sky from nowhere, my brother-in-law and I watched it for 4-5 minutes and it accelerated away at tremendous speed. 12.15 am on 01/01/2010 one of our neighbors called us to "look at this" When we went outside there was exactly the same thing coming slowly toward us, then it just seemed to speed off in the direction it came from, funny thing is it didn't turn around it just seemed to reverse and vanished again at speed, no noise just very, very quick.

Full Description of Event/Sighting: At approx 11.45 my brother- in-law and I were in my back garden when we saw an object the size of a football in the sky above the trees. It came quite close overhead and then it seemed to reverse at a fantastic speed, but with no engine noise of exhaust gasses. About 20 minutes later one of our neighbors came across to tell us that there was a " bright orange light at the rear of our property". We again stood looking a the exact same type of object the same size and shape that again came above our heads and the " reversed " Away at a tremendous speed. Any idea what these are would be really appreciated.
