Full Description of event/sighting: Driving north at the base to Silver Star mountain in the early evening and after sunset. My parents, sister and myself witnessed an intensely bright object streak over the car coming from the south. We watched it in full view through the front windshield as it lit the sky and interior of the car like daylight, moving away from us to the north. It appeared to be quite low, perhaps a few miles overhead and descending as it moved as though quickly losing altitude. It looked very similar to a shooting star or meteor, but so large and close. Whatever it was appeared to be burning up as it moved through the atmosphere. I recall it as being intense white light with a tail of light behind it. The whole event lasted maybe 10 seconds. We were so amazed we had missed our turn off.
I do not recall hearing much in the news. I did hear a report that it was a meteor and pieces of it were found I believe about 40 miles north of Vernon. My mother believes it may have been part of a Russian Sputnik that came down around that time. I don't know what it was, but considering the history of disinformation we have often been given, anything is possible. The recent reports of even black helicopters etc in the Okanagan in connection to other peoples stories, tells me we need to ask more questions.
