Time: approx: 8:45 p.m.I received this report from a family in Kitimat, B.C. This first letter from the mother explains what her son saw while they were all standing outside star gazing. The second letter is from the boy's father and gave me more detailed information.
Hello Brian, we read the article in the Weekend Advertiser regarding HWY 16 reports of bright objects in the sky.
We live in Kitimat and on March 5th, around 8:45 p.m. we decided to go look at the stars because it was such a clear night. My husband and I were looking one way and my son (9 years old) was looking towards the north when he said he saw a bright light with a red and orange layer going straight down from the sky. He described the object as having a tail. He said he didn't see it fall to the ground because it disappeared behind a tree. I had him draw and write down what he saw. He wrote "Going down like a ball of fire. " I'm wondering if you could tell us what this could possibly be. I believe him because he became very excited at the time. Yours truly.
(Below - Letter from the father:)
We were outside on the driveway on the north side of the house. I was gazing up to the sky over head towards the south and west trying to pick out a planet. No. We do not have a telescope. My wife, was looking at the star chart in the latest issue of the Star News magazine. She was more or less facing east but looking down to the magazine. We were trying to make sense of the chart with the stars above us.
You had asked about the object falling behind the tree. After asking our son some questions to find out little more about what he saw. The tree that was mentioned in my wife's message was a tree that was on the front lawn of the house across the street from the house we are living in. The tree is situated roughly north by north east of us. There is a 5,500 foot Mountain called Mt. Elizabeth about ten or fifteen miles, as the crow flies, out the town of Kitimat. It is towards the northeast of the town. It is not visible from the front lawn of our house. The aforementioned tree is roughly on the sightline in-between the house and Mt. Elizabeth.
From what our son said, it seemed to me that the lighted object was a little east of the tree and falling in an angle towards it. My son has no idea whether the object was falling in front of the mountain or behind it.
I hope some of this information, though not much, is of some help to you. We wish you luck in finding out what it is and hope you will let us know what our son has witnessed. Kindest regards.
