Date: February 14, 2011
Time: Night time sighting.I live on an open parcel of land surrounded by trees on all sides, I was taking the dog for her nightly walk on February 14, 2011 through an open field. Towards the west I noticed a light almost at treetop level, partly covered by the first layer of trees. The light which was actually in a clearing, was orange in colour and shaped like an upside down crescent moon and from the scale of the trees, it appeared to be about 10 feet long and about 50 feet from the ground.
In order to get a better view, we walked along the grassy field up a small hill, only to find that the object was slowly moving in the same direction. By the time we reached the top of the hill the object was still not as visible as I hoped because it kept moving, and it also started disintegrating starting at one end of the crescent slowly to the other end.
There was no noise and no outline of anything and the dog totally ignored it. The whole episode took about 5 minutes. There was a crescent moon shining through partial clouds near Mount Arrowsmith which is about 15 miles away, but I could find no local fog or low clouds or anything that could reflect the moons light, especially to create the flame orange colour.
Has anyone else seen anything similar ?
