Full Description of Event/Sighting: We witnessed the same phenomenon last night as well. The sky was very clear and perfect for star gazing, so that's what we were doing when we noticed this very bright and large star on the drive home from London. We wondered if it was Jupiter as it was in the western sky.
However when we watched it during the course of the evening from our yard, we decided it was anything, but a star. With the naked eye we could see a 'Ferris Wheel' like display of colored lights, blue, red and gold. We also were amazed to see that while this 'light' didn't appear to be moving, but staying in the same spot and moving in a star-like way in it’s trajectory across the sky.
After tracking it’s movement from an upstairs window pane as reference point, we could see that this 'star' would move up and down and left to right in very tiny increments and return to the same general area as it moved across the 4 sky from our westerly vantage point toward the north.
Around 9:30pm we noticed very tiny red lights either coming or going from this same bright object. Through binoculars there was a definite revolving of colored lights in a circular fashion. Our vantage point would put the object at about 60 degrees.
I'm relieved that someone else from the area witnessed this sighting as we thought we were seeing something unusual ourselves. Thanks so much Brian, a Happy New Year to you and yours.
